#itsjustaphase Family Ministry
Phases are the way that we are helping parents and servant leaders to see where their children currently are and where they are headed. Parents have an average of 3000 hours to spend with their child each year. The church has an average of 40 hours a year with a child. When the efforts of those two entities are combined it’s a powerful combination.
What’s a Phase? A Phase is timeframe in a child’s life when you can leverage distinctive opportunities to influence their future. Every week servant spend time investing in kids and teenagers. Moms and dads hope their children will grow up with the kind of faith that transforms their decisions, enriches their relationships, and leads to a better future. But in spite of the best hopes and intentions, many kids still grow up and miss experiencing God’s unconditional love and forgiveness.
Maybe they miss it because we missed something about…
With Phases, it’s our goal to equip parents and leaders to see what’s happening during critical phases of growing up so that they can connect God’s love and forgiveness to the heart of the next generation. When we can do that, then we’ll see our children grow closer to and connect more to the heart of their Father.
FX: A Family eXpereince
FX is an interactive Family Worship eXperience where kids and adults come together to learn God’s truth and experience His Word.
This service happens when we have a 5th Sunday, so 4 times a year (usually quarterly). We also have a full month of FX during the month of July. FX is geared for Preschool and Elementary kids and the adults that love them and want to see them grow in their faith. With recurring characters and themes that coordinate with what the kids have been learning throughout the month, FX reinforces with the family and the church body the importance of God’s Word in the lives of kids and families.
This is one way that we bring the whole church together in an “Orange” experience. It’s important for not just moms and dads to pour into their children’s lives spiritually, but for the church body as a whole to be involved in the spiritual growth of our children. In the United Methodist Church, when an infant or young child is baptized, the congregation takes a vow to nurture and grow the child being baptized. Along with the notion of helping the child, the vow is also to support the parents in the spiritual raising of their children and this FX service provides opportunities for interaction between kids and other adults who are vital role models when it comes to learning how to worship.
