OUR MISSION
Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
our vision
Love God. Serve People. Excellent Worship.
OUR BELIEFS
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal , each possessing the attributes of deity. They each are made of the same essence or nature, but different in function.
Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily paid for our sin by dying as our substitute. He rose from the dead demonstrating his power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven's glory and will return to earth to consummate history.
The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He draws us to Christ for salvation. He also lives in every Christ-follower and equips believers for personal growth and service.
OUR STORY
The North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church had been looking to plant a new congregation in the Hall County/greater Gainesville area for quite some time. The Highlands was intentionally designed to be less traditional in style, but seriously focused on reaching the unchurched in the area. In June of 2002 Pastor Jeff Coleman and his family were appointed to the North Hall area to help a fledgling movement that would eventually become The Highlands United Methodist Church. February 2003 marks the first official start date of The Highlands.
For us, it's pretty simple: Every single human being matters to God, therefore they matter to us.
While some churches may be member-focused, we strive to be mission-focused, and our mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. In other words, we want to make disciples (followers and learners of Jesus) for the transformation of the world. Thus, we’re constantly striving to create places where people can connect with both God and God’s people in worship, study, and mission.
We work toward being authentic, honest, and humble in our community of faith. We want to be a place where both regularly churched people and those not currently attending church can connect with God in an engaging, real, and grace-filled environment. We are an informal church where there are no dress codes, phony pretensions, or perfect people. We are who we are and by God's grace, we are all on a journey toward becoming more like Jesus Christ.
We are real people, who deal with real life issues, in a real church environment. Here at The Highlands we’re seeking to apply the unchanging truth of the Bible in an inspiring and challenging way that gives birth to life change in the hearts of each of us.
